Columbus Air Force is an air force base located north of Columbus, Mississippi. It is home to the 14th Flying Training Wing which is instrumental in training undergraduate pilots for the United States Air Force. Most of the basic and primary flight training for pilots in today’s Air Force takes place at Columbus Air Force Base. Housing is available on-post in several newly constructed communities. There are over 400 homes available for Airmen and their families that include air conditioning, dishwashers and washer/dryer hookups. To find out what properties are available, military personnel can contact the housing flight office to determine what properties are currently available and which might be on a wait list. Upon arrival, all personnel should report to the housing office regardless if a property on or off post is desired.
Off-post housing can be scheduled prior to arrival with the housing office for such items as pets. Some properties allow pets for a fee and some do not. Homes for sale or rent are offered with a purchase price starting in the low 100’s. Off-post rental rates do not usually cover utilities. Check with housing office to determine the basic housing allowance that is designated for each particular rank. Schools for students living on-post include Columbus High school for grades 9-12 and Lee Middle School for grades 7 & 8. The base provides an extensive adult education program for continuing education credits and college level exams. For high school completion, a diagnostic test is used to determine what level the student may need to start. High-school classes to attain a diploma are open-ended and allow students to being and end at their convenience.
